Dentist Montenegro DENTAL IMPLANTS

What are implants?
A dental implant is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone in the jaw to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown or bridge and acts as an orthodontic anchor. A dental implant is where materials, such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed, so that it forms an intimate bond with bone, then a dental prosthetic is added. Healing time can vary before the tooth can be attached to the implant.

A bright smile is what people first notice about you. An attractive smile generates personal confidence, unlocks doors to success, and opens lines of communication.

Reasons leading to tooth/teeth loss are numerous and can be from periodontal disease, unsuccessful dental treatments, and trauma. All of these problems can be repaired using dental implants. Prior to the installation of implants teeth and gums need to be checked.

The phases of implant placement:

  • Implants are surgically fixed into the bone. The procedure is quick and painless performed under local anesthesia. After installing the implants they need time to join together with the bone, a process known as osseointegration, which usually takes two to six months.
  • After this waiting period, the implant is on a superstructure that goes on prosthetic crowns or other prosthetic solution depending on the plan of treatment.

Who are good candidates for dental implants?
Anyone lacking one, two, or more natural teeth are good candidates. Missing a tooth or teeth affects the natural chewing ability, aesthetic appearance or speech, this person is a candidate for dental implants. Also, implants may be the ideal solution for people wearing full and partial dentures. However, it is important that the patient have enough bone density and be in good health, because poor health can compromise the healing process. Examples: uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

  • When you are missing one or more teeth:

  • Dental bridges can be used to replace missing tooth/teeth. Whether you are missing one or more teeth, if we have chosen a dental bridge as your therapy, teeth grinding is potentially threatening to bridges. If that is the case, we recommend dental implants.

  • When a person is missing posterior teeth (molars and premolars) from either side:

  • To form a dental bridge it is necessary to have at least one molar, called a bridge abutment. If all molars are missing the installation of dental implants are necessary. Otherwise, the patient would have to wear prosthesis.

  • When all teeth are missing:

  • Prostheses on implants as the name suggests, are dentures that are attached to dental implants. Executive characteristics of the prosthesis on implants are easily removable for cleaning and hygiene, but also when they attached and well secured the patients are rehabilitated.

What are the benefits of implants?
Dental implants in modern dentistry represent a superior solution to compensate for tooth/teeth loss.

  • Enhanced functionality: After fusion with bone, the implants function like your normal teeth. Unlike dentures that create an unpleasant feeling as if a foreign object is in the mouth, the patient generally feels no difference between natural teeth and implants.

  • Conservation of natural tooth/teeth around the implant remains intact because there is no need to grind neighboring tooth/teeth. Implant/s are more stable and comfortable in your mouth. Implants do not threaten the quality of other teeth, which can happen when wearing dental bridges.
